Get the band together and take on the world in this battle of the bands, deckbuilding card game set in the fantasy land of Riff City. Play solo or with friends to conquer competitive real-time tournaments or offbeat bosses in a coop campaign. Wits and a sick riff are key to becoming a rock legend.
Battle Bands was a 3 year project starting from a simple concept: “make a cooperative Rock and Roll deck builder.”
First thing I built was a physical prototype, then with the pandemic a roll20 enabled - digital card game. From that proof of concept we built Battle Bands in Unreal making both a giant 64 Band deckbuilding multiplayer tournament and (using the same card balance) a Single/Coop tour mode campaign against a litany of fully unique opponents all playing by the same rules with their own unique cards. Through a two year early access period prior to launch we developed the game and the community which I was charged with managing and engaging. The building and balancing challenges on Battle bands were awesome in both senses of the word and I am incredibly proud of what I and the team over at Aerie Digital have shared with the wonderful community we built.
